Genetic counseling is the process of helping individuals and families understand how genetic conditions may affect their health. Genetic counselors are specially trained healthcare providers who assess personal and family history, explain complex genetic information in clear, compassionate ways, and help guide decisions about genetic testing. Whether you're navigating a new diagnosis, planning a pregnancy, or simply have questions about your family history, genetic counseling offers education, support, and personalized insight—so you can make informed choices about your health.
What is genetic counseling?
Who might benefit from genetic counseling?
Genetic counseling can be helpful at many points in life—whether you’re planning a family, managing a new diagnosis, or simply wanting to better understand your family’s health history.
You might benefit from genetic counseling if:
You or a loved one has a personal or family history of cancer, heart disease, or neurological conditions
You’re pregnant or planning to grow your family and want to explore genetic screening options
You’ve had unusual test results or symptoms that could have a hereditary cause
You're looking for support in navigating a new or known genetic diagnosis
You’re simply curious about how your genetics may impact your health or your children’s health
Genetic information isn’t just about risk—it’s about clarity. We’re here to walk with you through the unknowns, provide answers where we can, and support you in making decisions that feel right for you and your family.
What to expect.
At Enchanted Mountain Genetics, we take a patient-centered approach to address your individual needs and concerns related to genetic health. Our HIPAA compliant tele-health platform and flexible scheduling allows us to meet at a time that works best for you, in the comfort of your own home.
Before:
Before your appointment, we’ll conduct an intake call during which we’ll aim to better understand your concerns and goals and assess whether genetic counseling is right for you. We may ask you to collect some information about your personal medical history or family history and if necessary, ask you to obtain copies of pertinent test results or records.
During:
During your appointment we’ll revisit your goals, review your personal and family history, and discuss testing options and next steps together. If you decide to move forward with testing, we’ll work with your other healthcare providers to order testing.
After:
Once your results are available, we’ll call you directly to go over them in detail and talk through what they mean for you and your family. We’ll work with your other healthcare providers to develop a personalized plan moving forward.
Our ultimate goal is to empower you to make informed, confident decisions—on your own terms, when you feel ready.
